Tom James Parmiter is a London-based composer, songwriter and producer known for his ambient, neo-classical and experimental instrumental music. Born in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, Parmiter began his musical journey as a drummer in local rock bands before evolving into a solo composer and multi-instrumentalist. Over time his focus shifted from electronic and synthesizer-based music to compositions centred around the piano, an instrument that now plays a central role in his creative output.
Parmiter released his debut album “Providence” in 2011 through the independent label Zube Records. The experimental ambient collection received early attention from BBC Radio 6 Music, where presenter Gideon Coe featured material from the release, helping raise his profile in the UK independent music scene.
In 2014, he followed up with “Imperfect Symmetry”, a piano-led ambient album that was widely reviewed and marked a stylistic evolution toward more emotive and cinematic soundscapes. This album was later shortlisted for nomination at the AIM Independent Music Awards.
Continuing to expand his catalogue, Parmiter released the Laws of Motion EP in 2015 and, in 2018, joined the roster of Anara Publishing, who took on worldwide publishing representation for several of his releases. He also secured representation from YTINIFNI Pictures for his release "Under the Illusion: Coda" (2025) and most recently with Songs To Your Eyes; firstly for "Across The Plateau" in 2022 and the upcoming EP "In Reflection" (2026).
In later years Parmiter has continued exploring diverse sonic textures through a series of EPs released from 2020 up to the present day, including the electronic-infused “Chameleon” (2020) through to upcoming release “In Reflection” (2026). His work has been featured in a range of contexts — from radio broadcasts and television to art exhibitions — and reflects an ongoing interest in blending ambient, classical and experimental influences into evocative instrumental music.

"Using ambient backings as a base to his accomplished piano playing he has created an album of wonderment and interest which deserves several listens to fully appreciate."
"It's Parmiter’s approach to his music ‘building’ that is of particular interest, essentially influenced by filmic composers of the likes of Michael Nyman and John Barry creating massive soundscapes which deserve extreme exploration of a grand scale."
